White California girl going to Georgia State for college....am I asking for it?
I may be going to Georgia State for college. I'm excited, but I'm also concerned about the culture shock. Will I survive? I go to a prodominantly white school, and I know it sounds racist but I don't think I'm going to fit in well with the black people. But I want to stretch my horizons. What exactly am I getting myself into?

idk lol, well im black and live in florida and even i find it hard to fit in with the more of the ghetto black people. i tend to have mostly white friends. but its not to bad. i think youll make it
Answer 2 :
Well, even though Georgia has a lot of black people, the majority of them will be outside of the walls of the college b/c of...you know ;) No worries!
Answer 3 :
Give it a try! How exciting to be able to go to college in such a diverse region. If it doesn't work out, you can transfer to another school later, but the experience should be amazing. The south is so different from the west, so there will be culture shock. Keep in mind that everyone in college is in culture shock their freshman year. Most schools have social programs designed to assimilate new students into the social scene on campus, so you'll have a partner or group to lean on during those early days.
Answer 4 :
Of the ~28,000 students at Georgia State, approx. 44% are minorities. The more culturally diverse a university is, the better. If you want to "fit in" then go to a community college. If you want to stretch your horizons, you're better off at a university.
